Here is what we did today:
Lee Witten drill mounting holes in the flange:
Our rivet crew stands ready as the rivets are heated. Jacob, at right, is exactly six feet tall, showing how small the tender really is.
Slim prepares to pull a rivet from the furnace:
Bob Wachs, our blacksmith, is fixing a hinge on the coal door so it will close straight:
As a side note, I went down to the Eccles Rail Center at the other end of the museum and put a chain and padlock on the engineer's side door of SD40T-2 #5371. Somebody forced the door open and now it doesn't lock, so the chain was necessary.
