The long awaited demolition of the old Alamosa Power plant began today. There had been sporadic demo work done for the last couple of years, but today began the big tear down. Over the years the plant had been powered by Coal, oil and natural gas. When it was coal fired, the narrow gauge brought in coal from Baldwin and later from Durango. The power plant was a landmark in the Alamosa Yards. The last remaining dual gauge switch was located at this facility before being removed and relaid in the C&TS yard in Antonito.
