The prospect that the Silverton Northern may be rebuilt to Howardsville is exciting. It's rational and achievable, unlike some railfan dreams that are so grandiose that they're not taken seriously. While recognizing the major challenge that relaying 4.7 miles of railroad poses, I'll point to the fact that the WW&F, SVRR and the ET&WNC restoration folks had similar goals -- and they succeeded in re-establishing portions of long-vanished lines.
The potential tie-in to mining history museums is a plus for the proposed SN restoration, along with the fact that Silverton is already a tourist destination point.
Keep everyone informed as to your plans when they are formalized. Thanks.
