The photo posted on the forum below is of the East Tennessee & Western Carolina Railroad taken by my Uncle Bob Richardson in November 1942. Engine #11 was at Elk Park, north Carolina and had three wood coaches ready for the late afternoon round trip to Johnson City, Tennessee. This particular train was configured as a commuter train and picked up the defense plant employeeswho worked in Johnson City. This train would lay-over at Elk Park overnight and then take the working commuters to their jobs the following morning.By the November 18, 1942 date of the forum photo below, #11 was the last of three engines in use by the ET&WNC R.R.At the end of World War II, engines # 9 and 11 would be scrapped and #12 sold to a railroad in Virginia. Later, #12 went to the "Tweetsie R.R." in Boone, North Carolina.
I've uploaded two photos, one with Bob Richardson taken with cap-stacked ten wheeler #12 when he went on a round trip excursion in September 1936.
here are the photos. Note a young Bob Richardson tanding on the pilot of #12.
