"Moving K-Class Locomotives over the Highway"
On My way to Colorado Springs this week (via Denver, Golden, and Breckenridge), I did stop at the Gunsmoke Truck stop in Johnson Village at the base of Trout Creek Pass (DSP&P and the Colorado Midland),
The photos that follow show what is clearly a D&RGW K-Class sitting at the Gunsmoke Truck Stop on a lowboy trailer. The Cab numbers are clear, with the exception of the middle numeral, which can either be an "8" or a "9". Even without being able to tell the exact 2nd numeral, the fluted domes and flat smokebox door, and other locations of appliances give this away as a K-37... More than likely, this IS 491 on its way to Golden at the Colorado Railroad Museum.
