18 and Creede engine

Every time 18 pulls into the Alamosa depot, the crew seem to get off the engine and look in the area of the cylinder. What is the concern or what at they looking at. Also, the steam engine at Creede, is there any plans to have the Alamosa crew work on her restoration or has someone else planned to work on this steamer. Exactly what are the plans there for the engine. What about 18 running on the Creede line? Ken in Buena Vista
