Earlier on I was doing some research on water tube boilers. What I got from the research was
A. the boilers could operate at much higher pressures- on locomotives seen up to 800 PSI
B. There were normally two sets of cylinders, one high and one low with tubes running all over locomotives going from one set to the other.
C. Most of these locomotives were not considered great and more or less were assigned to yard duty, were very high maintenance, or scrapped within 10 years of being built.
Can anyone explain any more about this style of boiler and why it was never successful and also was there anywhere that they actually built a water tube boiler for narrow gauge?
I kind of figure that there was probably something like this built for small mining operations etc. But could not seem to dig anything else up.
Any info is appreciated.
Thanks,
Matt
