Need some help identifying a gondola pictured in Chama in Dorman and Hayden's
D&RGW: Durango to Alamosa and Salida.
On page 57 of the book at the bottom is a photo credited to Dorman looking (North? Captions says East?) towards the coal tower and tank.
What I'm puzzled by is the second car in the immediate right foreground of the picture. I would
swear this gondola is painted yellow?! (And judging by the shine, freshly painted at that!) I can tell from the angle of the shot this is not one of the 96XX series cars converted for use on the Silverton. I know there have been "open rider cars" used by various clubs, as well as on the C&TS, but I was unaware of any ever painted in Grande Gold?
Can someone shed more light on this car? The photo in the book gives no date. Do any photos exist out there that better show the car in this paint scheme?
Thanks!
Josh
