Listing railfan-friendly businesses.

There are a number of railfan-friendly businesses in Narrow Gauge Country. I will start a list here. Please, by all means, make your own additions. They do not necessarily have to be on a n.g. r.r. line.

Silverton: The Pickle Barrel restaurant. Owned by Fritz Klinke for three decades, this is the oldest railfan-friendly business in the region. Fritz has been heavily involved in the historic preservation and stabilzation of many historic structures, including Needleton Tank. The food is the best in Silverton. It is located on the corner of 13th and Greene (main) Streets in Silverton, two blocks northwest from the end-of-track.

Chama: There are a couple of businesses to recommend. First is The Hotel in Chama. It is directly across the street from the train and the rooms are comfortable and clean. There is a great second-story lobby and balcony. Roger Hogan is a true character out of thre Old West, growing up in Jerome, Arizona. He is around most of the time and is a great storyteller and is very knowledgeable of the area. Also a couple of blocks south on Terrace (main) Avenue, is Trackside Emporium. Bob Manthey-Zorn is also a Westerner who basically has been all over, knows lots about railroads everywhere, and runs a great little bookstore that is all railroad. He also is the only dealer in the region that sells John Coker railroad art prints.

These businesses deserve our support. Know any others?
