I found this on the SPNG Yahoo group. The information does not get much newer than this. Reposted here by permission of Duane Ericson.
Hello all: I posted a pic of the former Espee narrow gauge diesel
under new photos-102_0245. I apologize for the poor quality of the
picture, getting a picture of it at all was fortunate as Cananea is
not a good place to be right now: Cananea has come to the front of
the drug war and there have been many shootings and executions there
in the last couple of years, in one day 14 of the local police
officers were murdered in one day, another time a refrigerator of
decapitated heads was delivered to the police. On top of that, for
the last two years there has been a violent strike at the mine and
smelter, and everything has been shut down. To get to the spot I took
the photo I had to pass through a picket line of strikers and the
burned out hulk of a Ferromex backhoe which apparently the strikers
hit with a molotov cocktail. Needless to say I took a couple of pics
from as close as I could get, then left. I have emailed Ferromex and
written them asking permission to visit the site and am hoping to
hear back from them, but until the strike is over, I doubt I'll be
getting a better picture. btw, I'm writing a book on Narrow Gauge in
sonora and I'm looking for pictures of this loco that I can use in a
publication, I have a plethera of quality photos of Cananea and
Nacozari pre WWI, which is the focus of the book, but am lacking more
recent photos, any help is appreciated, thanks, Duane Ericson
