Last night, (January 9th) I was partaking in one of man's last freedoms.....surfing through satelite channels. As I came upon one of my favorites, Encore Western channel, there was "A Ticket to Tomahawk" getting ready to start in 5 minutes. My timing could not have been better! I settled in for a wonderful evening with my wife, dog and favorite couch as we watched the entire movie uninterrupted. It was thoroughly entertaining and colorful. Even if it was far fetched it was a lot of fun.
I guess what I liked most about it was the way it concluded, with the town council voting to extend the boundaries of the burg so the railroad would receive its reward for completion. I liked it because that is a page taken right from the old lore about the completion of the Nevada Central Railroad as set forth in "Bonanza Railroads." See Chapter entitled "Silver Spikes at Midnight." So, not only did Nevada contribute to the movie story, some 50 years later Eureka ran the same rails. Of course, Eureka was built in 1875 and the movie supposidly took place in 1876. Hey, this just proves sooner or later it all comes together. To bad I could not have made it 50 years earlier when the camera was rolling.
Did anyone else catch it?
