The return of the once & future Green boiler controversy thread has me musing.
I remember, back in '73 or so, while waiting at oh-dark-thirty in the cancelltion line at Durango, hoping to get on the Silverton (thanks Dad, you were so incredibly patient) getting into this with some guy who was bemoaning the yellow cars & "goofy" stacks. Mostly for amusement value, (I was even more obnoxious at 13 -14 than now, believe it or not) I kept pointing out to him that D&RGW *was* the prototype and they could, and had for about 20 years (then) chosen that "look" for their equipment. he didn't quite have an infarction, but looking back, it may have been a near-run thing!
I was also flirting with the girl in front of me in line, who turned out to be in her 20's & married (oops!). Wonder what happened to her?
btw, Mom & I wound up being about the last to get tickets for the 2nd train that day. Thanks again Dad!
