What is the longest train you have been on? Either as crew or passenger.
Me, On the SJVR in 2000, from Burrell to Fresno on the Sunset Branch. I was a student engineer working with a hogger who didn't like to run in the first place. We picked up 98 empty grain cars from the Foster Farms plant (unit grain train) and 45 "dead freight" (misc freight cars) from the siding at Inglewood near Kerman. After our air test we headed 25 miles for Fresno with two worn out GP9's and 143 cars. I'll tell you, starting the train wasn't too bad, but timing the brake applications and keeping enough power up to keep the slack out was! Before that my longest train was around 40 cars. That was the peak for me.
BTW, I think the yard master fell off his chair when we called for clearance into the yard.
