I just re-watched an older Video Rails production from probably late 1980's (497 was still on the C&TS) regarding a John Craft-organized affair in late October on the Cumbres & Toltec. They were taking several days to recreate Rio Grande freight operations on the Cumbres line, and one of the trains they recreated was a freight coming into Chama from Durango, the first one in over 25 years at that time.... Knowing that the line was abandoned south of Chama, they did a great job of recreating the sight of a train arriving in Chama from the south. My question, how far does the track survive south of the Chama yards today? The recreation on that video was superb, and the two-tape set is just beautiful. Only wish I could get to Chama more often and it seems once every ten years.
