I wonder how this project (ACNGS) is coming along these days. It sure would be nice to see the 463 put into the Chama shops to be fixed this winter (into the next few years I'm sure) with the monies collected for ACNGS thus far. It does seem like the next best locomotive to tear apart and get refurbishing since it is most complete and hs been fairly recently run.
It takes awhile to get these locomotives fully gone through it seems and by the time the next K-36 needs major overhaul it would be great (although wishful thinking) to have another locomotive already in the shopping process and nearing completion to get back on the road.
There are other posts on this forum that indicate that the 483 isn't that bad off (Earl Knoob stated this months/years back). The findings were that the 483 isn't really any worse off than the 489 was when it was outshopped just recently. It has been canibalised for parts, yes, but it is in decent shape and isn't "unrestorable" either.
Maybe it is wishful thinking, or maybe planning ahead? I wonder what the next project is for the shop?
