I got an email from Ted Rita, General Manager at the Hesston Steam Museum (La Porte County, IN) that New Mexico Lumber Co shay #7 is finally nearly rebuilt, and should be operating on Labor Day Weekend. The photo below is from this winter, but it's even further along now.
This locomotive was nearly restored when a shop fire damaged it badly, some years ago. After a long effort, the restoration is (again!) nearly complete.
The #7 was one of the locomotives used on the McPhee branch of the RGS, from Dolores to McPhee. It was built in 1929, and to my knowledge it's the last NG shay ever built.
The link below takes you to my RGS Remaining Equipment page, where #7 is the first entry. I've got a little more info there, and a builder's picture as well.
