casey jones to silverton 2008

Casey Jones, after a long winter's rest in Durango, went back to Silverton on May 28. It had been planned to take it up on the 26th, but snow conditions had not been kind.
We used this trip to post the flag-stop signs along the way at Rockwood, Tacoma, Cascade, Needleton and Elk Park.
Casey had run under its own power to Hermosa the preceding week. Early, early in the morning of the 28 we fired it up again. We primed it with starter fluid in each of the 8 cups and tried to turn it over. Well, it did turn over, but did not catch. This was repeated for 5 more attempts before we finally got it running. This was done simply to make sure it would start again up at Silverton.
There it was connected by a draw bar to a track car, which then pulled the Casey up the track. This is the first of the attached photos. Another photo shows it passsing the patrol car in Elk Park. Once over Mineral Creek we disconnected the Casey from the track car and started its own engine again. The last photo shows it at Blair St. It was all alone. No one knew we were coming and so no one was there to greet us. The Casey was then driven back to the depot, where it is at the moment.
Well, that's it for the moment. If there is interest, I'd be glad to post another three photos from the trip.
