Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad
August “SUNDAY SPECIALS”
Rocking and Rolling train events for August 2008!

July 25, 2008, Chama, New Mexico. The all-new 2008 season “Sunday Special” trains are riding the rails high! The July special event trains have hit a high note with passengers and have been entertaining young and old with this first group of successful special train trips. August will continue this program of “Sunday Specials” with another great line-up of appealing and unique train ride opportunities.

The August “Sunday Specials” will run from Chama to Cumbres and back with a roster of fun family-oriented train rides. The Sunday train will depart the Chama Depot at

11 AM, with special activities slated both on board the train ride and at the ride’s destination point-10, 015-foot Cumbres Pass. A picnic lunch and special activities at this mountain setting are included in the ticket price. The train returns at 3 PM.

In August there will be four “Sunday Specials” each celebrating a different theme and opportunity to experience antique railroading and spectacular scenery with a fun twist to the ride. The August lineup includes:

* August 3, 2008-Trains and Indians. Celebrate with the C&T and Native American neighbors, the Jicarilla Apache Nation. The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad has a rich history with the Jicarilla Apaches. Arts & crafts and Native American vendors will be set up at the Chama Depot. The Jicarilla Apaches will be in native dress and will entertain with Native dances at Cumbres summit. This train special provides for a time of sharing in Native American dance and song and the opportunity to experience the creative spirit of the Apache culture at the same time.

* August 10, 2008-The Gospel Train. What better way to spend a Sunday than aboard the Gospel Train singing tunes that are sure to touch your heart and soul. Gospel Singing Minstrels will stroll the cars for sing-alongs and special requests. A fun picnic at the summit will round out this musical train special!
* August 17, 2008- The Mariachi Train. Hop on the Mariachi Express! This Sunday Special is a true Mariachi extravaganza! The group, Mariachi Calor will be on board the Cumbres & Toltec providing for a colorful and muy caliente train ride! Music, song and dance will fill the depot, the train and the mountains on this spirited train ride. Picnic with the Mariachi group in the mountains!
* August 24, 2008-The Cumbres Challenge Bike Race. Come chase the Cumbres & Toltec--America’s highest narrow gauge scenic railroad, through the mountains of north-central New Mexico and Southern Colorado. This train special will provide bicyclists a unique opportunity to race the train uphill from the Chama depot to the historic town of Cumbres…..or perhaps a downhill race from Cumbres Pass back to Chama. Either way, it’s sure to be an exciting race for both bicyclists and passengers to see which set of wheels rolls over the finish line first! The Challenge takes uphill riders along New Mexico Highway 17 approximately 15 miles, climbing over 2,100’ vertically to the top of Cumbres Pass. There everyone will enjoy a picnic lunch in this beautiful high-mountain setting. Bicyclists can choose to either race the train-up, race down or they can take the “double challenge” and race both ways!

Ticket Prices for all “Sunday Specials” are $49 for adults and $25 for children. Schedules and details about these “Sunday Specials” and all train rides are available on our website at www.cumbrestoltec.com or by calling 1-888-Cumbres (286-2737).
