While looking through some old photo files, I found this photo taken in June 1996. The two engines facing westbound are part of a photo freight. The engine coming east is the Antonito passenger returning from Osier. The siding at Big Horn was fairly short, but during the 50's the Grande had extended the tail of the wye so that two long freights could meet here if necessary, but it involved splitting one train and putting part on the wye and part on the siding. Bob Richardson has a picture of the resulting confusion in Rio Grande days. Our freight was long enough that it required similar treatment to meet the passenger. This picture reminded me a bit of Bob's picture. It was a typical Monsoon West day, overcast and waiting to rain so it's not great photography. But I thought the picture was atmospheric and suggests how much the C&TS can still replicate the DRGW days.....or at least will be able to when they reinstall the switches on the Big Horn siding.
