French Narrow Gauge in Danger

July 07, 2008 05:27PM avatar
While I realize that many on this list may not be interested in foreign railroads, the French meter gauge line, CF du Vivarais, has been closed suddenly by local officials, and is in grave danger of it and the equipment being sold off or scrapped. It even has a 2.5Km dual gauge section with SNCF. It had been preserved by local fans for a number of years, but they did not have the funds to rebuild the line or the locomotives. I do not know French, but if any of you do, you might want to drop a line to the appropriate officials mentioned in the first web site (English letters might not be received with as much appreciation). The second has photos that show the beautiful scenery it goes through.
