It is interesting but not surprising that the Friends trip with the 315 priced at $110 for non-members is sold out with a waiting list, whereas some of the DRHS trips with the 315 priced at $250 to $295 are facing cancellation for lack of ticket sales. Seems to me the right hand did not pay much attention to the left hand.
Clearly the Friends deserve a break given all the work that they do, but to price a trip at under half what the DRHS folks are trying to charge is not appropriate. For two reasons.
One, the Friends need to raise money. And they are giving up a lot of potential money.
But even more importantly, the DRHS and C&TS need to sell enough tickets to make some money to cover the considerable costs of moving the 315 to the C&TS.
This kind of well intentioned but misguided low ball pricing on the part of the Friends hurts both parties.
