Steve Butler and I took 18 over the hill with 2 domes and 2 coaches - 340 tons....
In La Veta.....
Our water woes continue. Approval of water right permit is a good week or so away, but La Veta had decided we can't use any of their precious stuff. So we are forced to truck water from Alamosa every day (at big $$$$). At least Alamosa lets us use it. We thought this banner was appropiate advertising.....
Headed home up the 3%. Steve shows us just how easy 18 is to fire...
The throttle doesn't get much further open than this. At least the water glass is full and the steam gauge is right at 199 lbs...
18 has lots of guts. The Johnson Bar is only down 6 notches or so from the top. If you look closely at the quadrant, you can see a vertical scratch in the black paint. That's the center notch.
Stopped at Fir, we waited the arrival of the La Veta-Alamosa passenger on its return trip to La Veta.
