There is an interesting article over at the Durango Herald:

Durango Herald: Railroad sponsors team in Iron Horse

The railroad sponsored a team in the annual "Iron Horse" bike vs. train race between Durango and Silverton. The team consisted of Engineer Scott Shewmake, Chief Operating Officer Jeff Jackson, machinist Stephen Carr, machinist Travis Wheeler, and conductor Ben Baker.

Unfortunately, another article says that snow caused the race to be cancelled:
