Driving from Alamosa towards Durango on 160, I came across this water tower in South Fork. Standard gauge tracks run past it, with empty piggyback cars that look to have been there for a while, for they were partially buried in snow. What is the history of this tower, and railroad line? Was it once narrow gauge? Is the standard gauge line still used, or only for storage of the very long strings of piggybacks? Almost a crime that this beautiful water tower has modern freight cars parked out front.
Thank you,
Matthew
