FEBT Rockhill work session January 5-6, 2008

January 01, 2008 02:49PM avatar
The first FEBT Rockhill work session of 2008 will take place Saturday and Sunday, January 5-6, 2008, marking the beginning of our seventh season of work at the railroad.

We will work from 9 am to 5 pm Saturday and from 9 am to 4 pm Sunday. We'll meet at the Rockhill shops at 9 am.

Our activities will be heavily dependent on weather. If it is inclement, we have a number of projects we can work on in our HEATED paint shop, but at this point AccuWeather is predicting temperatures in the high 30s to low 40s for that weekend!

So here is what will be happening.

HOPPER 802
The crew is completing tasks associated with the installation of the second truck. Steve Jacobs will lead this crew.

BOXCAR 168
We want to move the lift to another location in the car to allow us to take up the floor over the second bolster for inspection. We also have drilling and welding to do, if the weather allows. If the weather is not good for outside work, we will plane and mortise the floor sills and wooden side posts.. Bring power drills and hand-held grinders. Lee Rainey will lead this project.

FOUNDRY
This crew will finish up a variety of tasks related to this summer's repairs around the gantry area. Jim Bacon will lead this project.

MAIN SHOPS
If the weather is too cold for glazing, the crew will probably work removing sash and installing chipboard temporary panels. Chris Coleman will lead this job.

GARAGE
The materials will be on hand for this crew to the prepare the large quantity of tongue-and-groove stock needed for the coming season. Bill Adams will lead this job.

COMBINE 14
The boxcar wood crew will also begin planing lumber for this project.

LUNCH
At this point I do not have information on the RTY beanery. However, there are lunch places in town if needed. Plan $6 for lunch.

WEATHER
Visit www.accuweather.com and check the Rockhill zip code, 17249, for the latest weather.

GROUND RULES
To take part you must be 18 and a member of the FEBT (or join the FEBT at the work site.) These are insurance requirements. We are guests of the railroad and need to behave accordingly.

Last-minute walk-ons are always welcome at our sessions, but if possible, drop me an email in advance to let me know that you are coming. It helps with the planning.

See you there!
Lee
