Randall,
It is catagorically unfair to state that the same kind of discussions that used to be on the Ashpit are being made here. I realize that you carefully point out that that is Jay's opinion, and that you didn't say it yourself.
There has not been a single post I have seen in the threads that discuss Chama Steam's charter that has in any way degenerated to name calling or personal attack.
This is a forum for discussion of narrow gauge railroading, and that includes both present and past topics.
The subject of contemporary charters is very much allowable in this forum. In that regard, the Chama Steam charter is no different than a visit by Thomas the Tank Engine.
Let's not be overly sensitive about whether this discussion will get out of hand. The fact that we don't over-moderate this board allows things to sometimes go over the edge, but it hasn't even come close in this instance. Just because Jay Wimer has something to do with this or any other Charter does not make a discussion about it forbidden or taboo.
To compare this board now or ever to a "sewer" is offensive and unfair, and speaks more about those who would make such an accusation than the board itself.
If it gets out of hand, we'll take care of it. Just bringing it up, asking questions, and making a few comments doesn't cross the line.
Personal attacks, wild speculation and antimosity over past issues are the sort of "business" issues I was referring to.
By the way, if anyone is listening, it might actually go a long way toward helping the trip become a success if some news and information could be posted here rather than ignore this audience because of past issues and sore feelings. For most of us, we have happily moved on.
Be that as it may, I sincerely hope the Chama Steam Charter is a great success, again, and will continue so in the future.
Mike Trent
