If you are really doing a history with serious data about the town, I strongly suggest you nail down the date as close as you can and then read the two Durango newspapers and see if you can get the true facts. Much of what the newspapers printed back then came from the court house or the train station platform, and much was brought in by the train crews working from Chama.
None of the Chama newspapers ever survived in time to be microfilmed but that is not true for Durango, Santa Fe, Denver, or Albuquerque. The films can be obtained free by inter library loan.
One would be amazed how much totally wrong data is copied over and over into poorly made histories. The record in the county court house at T.A. should be investigated also.
Hopefully, someone with the real original railroad records will supply the data. The one source "D&RGW Archives" probably has it, but he is a private party not on the net.
