Steam to Return to Phillips, ME

August 08, 2005 06:32PM
Hello folks,
I thought some of you who follow Maine two foot gauge railroads might be interested in this information. I was firing the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad's former Monson Railroad locomotive #3 at Harrison, ME, this weekend, on a short ( 350' )piece of temporary track layed for the occasion of the town of Harrison's Bicentennial Celebration. Late Saturday afternoon it was decided by the powers that be that instead of the locomotive returning to Portland at the end of the weekend as was originally planned, it will instead go to Phillips, ME, for use on the weekend of 21st and 22nd of August, for Phillips Old Home Days. This will be the first time a steam locomotive has operated in Phillips since 1935. You can check the SR&RL museum's homepage for more information ( or just to check and make sure I'm right).
Regards,
Trevor H.
