New Sundance book

July 11, 2004 01:03AM
Dell McCoy and his wife Rosie dropped by this evening for a visit and I found out that he is working on Vol.11 of the Rio Grande Southern series of books. This one is on the RGS and D&RGW operations centered around Durango. As with previous Sundance books, this one promises to be packed with photos of things most of us have never seen. Dell said he would be making a formal annoucement of the book in a few months, and he hopes to have it available by Christmas. He's not ready to answer inquiries yet, so hold off until he announces the book's publication.
Dell also said he visited with Allen Nossaman in Durango and that Allen is working on Volume 4 of his Silverton history series that Sundance publishes. Allen's work is meticulous, precise, and extremely well written. It is an amazing series of books, the first 3 voulmes covering Silverton from 1874 through 1882, and that's about 1200 pages on just 8 years of one small but intensely interesting town.
Despite rumors of Dell's possible retirement, he appears well and has every intention of continuing with Sundance. He's camping out for a couple of days in Silverton in his special railroad coach trailer, and he will leave it at my house for a return visit for the fall colors.
