The 470s and 480s were all equipped with the "classifaction" boards . I don't know why ,but there is no indication that they were ever used for train numbers ,just engine numbers . Apparently they were removed from engines as they were shopped in the late 1950s . Since engines that came down from Salida in 1956 were not shopped on their arrival(business on the narrow gauge started to slow appreciably from 1956 on) they somehow kept their boards . This included #482,486 and489 . In 1976 I took the boards off 489 and put them on 484 .Later they were put back on 489 . Apparently #481 lost its set when it was shopped in 1968.I had a set custom made for 484 ,but th ey disappeared after the 1999 wreck .$300 of my own personal bucks down the pooper . Oh well . After I had the set made in 1994 ,John Bush asked me if I felt like having a set made for #487 I replied ,"not with my money".
