The last quarter century (or more) has brought changes to Lancaster County. "Suburbia" has spread out into the farm land. The Amish farms have been sold and those people moved on to newer Amish communities in Ohio and further west.
Long time ago, I had a conversation with the then general manager of the Strasburg and he shared his concern that the loss of the Amish would cause a loss of tourists coming to see this sect, etc. The fewer tourists would mean fewer riders for the railroad. I wonder if his fears came true?
