Looking back at the history of the Class A Climaxes working on the Seward Peninsula in Alaska, it seems likely that of the 4 Class A Climax engines, Number 313 worked very little, if at all , on the railroad out of Nome. It may have been moved directly to the 8-mile Golofin Bay Railway out of Council City in 1902, where it was the only locomotive used on that line.
The other 3 Class A Climaxes, 212 (1), 315 (2), and 399 (3) all worked out of Nome
The 3 Class B Climaxes, engines 5, 6, and 7 only worked in the summer of 1906 out of Nome, as they apparently were too heavy for the track.
Anyway, I can't resist including a picture of the " Blue Mountain" that is currently back in Walla Walla, and of course a pup mobile from the post-steam era
That reminds me that I should scan the slides that I took of the several miles of the railroad (track intact, but not in use) that I hiked on my first trip to Nome.
