GB&L arrives in Breckenridge, 120 years late??

March 30, 2004 09:43PM
The Georgetown, Breckenridge & Leadville (Georgetown Loop) was chartered to run from, well, Georgetown to Breckenridge and eventually to Leadville. Acquisition of the South Park line made the extension unnecessary, and the line ended a few miles west of Silver Plume.
Of interest, what with the contract problems between GLR and Colo. Hist. Society: Breckenridge has said they'd be glad to let GLR "store" our equipment at Breckenridge. It is no secret that Breck wants a narrow-gauge railroad (as opposed to Silver Plume, which wishes the Loop train would go away....) Note Breck's purchase of #111 from Sundown and Southern. Much of the South Park's ROW still exists in the area. Could this be Colorado's newest ng railroad? We'll have to wait and see, but it is an interesting thought..... (Oh, and you didn't hear this from me !!) :]
