So sorry to hear we have lost Dirk. He was a great guy.
Dirk was the only person I ever knew that rode a bicycle to
the CRRM from his mom's home near Cherry Creek and
back. Before Dirk had a Drivers License I think.
When I lived in North Denver, Dirk and I rode a city bus
to Golden once. From Golden we walked along the C&S
RR line to the CRRM, about 3 miles I think. We paused for
a break at the old "Rockwood" 3 sided trolley stop that
was still along the track but no trolley came along.
Later Dirk and I were sent on road trip by Uncle Bob with
a rented flat bed truck to change the road signs Bob had
placed around Colorado advertising the museum. Probably
when the Motel on the property was sold. I noticed one of
the old signs was reused for part of the roof when a caboose
was reworked and a photo posted here.
Dirk's father had a gold Jaguar XK120 he borrowed quite
often we used to chase C&S 600's on RMRRC trips. It always
attracted more cops around Denver who stopped us than the
girls we were hoping for. Many parties and visits over the years.
Great guy, so many memories of him. He will be missed.
