Thanks for posting 493 in the rain. I too think that steam in the rain is more dramatic than steam on a hot sunny day. As for the snake, it sure looked like a bull snake to me. As for rattlesnakes, I used to hear it said that if you have bull snakes in an area, you are unlikely to find rattlesnakes, as bull snakes kill them. Not sure if that is scientifically proven. Anyway, I have never seen a rattlesnake in the San Juan mountains, but I still wear snake gaiters at elevations as low as Rockwood.
