Not a picture but...
I have played with trains since I was 5 when I somehow badgered Dad into getting me an Athearn hustler, a couple of cars and some track. By mid-high school I had a copy of a few books and Model Railroader magazines and a 4X8 sheet of plywood. Back then in the late 1960s there was an advertisement for some sort of Model Railroad show up in Casper Wyoming and (once again) I badgered Dad into taking me. I think he wanted to run some errands of his own, so we took off for a Saturday road-trip outing.

At this show was a small diorama with a Timberline Idaho Springs Mine, HOn3 track, and a car or two. I was mesmerised by the narrow gauge. I asked lots of probably dumb high-school-kid questions of the patient nice folks at the show and have been hooked on narrow gauge ever since. I've since built a few of those Timberline kits myself (one still sits on the Denver and Western Railroad in the basement of the Colorado Railroad Museum) But like your picture of the United 2-6-0, to this day the sight of the Timberline Idaho Springs Mine still brings back a really neat rush of discovery.
