As noted previously (more than once, IIRC), my equivalent experience was buying the April, 1956 issue of
TRAINS Magazine (see [
ngdiscussion.net]).
As a further tie-in, somewhere deep-buried in my treasure chest of artifacts left over from before my conversion from 3.5mm/foot to 12"/foot "modeling" is a United C&S 2-6-0 – with spark arrestor – sorta like the one in the ad you mentioned. Unfortunately, in the course of a futile attempt to get the darn thing to run worth a damn, it has been disassembled and altered somewhat

The magazine, OTOH, is still pretty much intact — though rather dog-eared from re-readings every decade or so.
