But two questions come to mind, which I hope one or more of our resident historians can answer —
1) It's pretty clear from the location of #493 relative to the Antonito depot (and from the shadows under the S.P. boxcar) that the third rail was still intact on the old mainline to Santa Fe when the photo was taken. What year was the third (n.g.) rail removed from the section of track immediately adjacent to the depot?
2) A couple of Jerry's photos show that the Red Devil coal loader was still intact in Antonito in April of 1971. IIRC, the loader was among the items purchased from the D&RGW by the two states
; why was the loader never moved to the C&TS, and when was it scrapped?
