It seems that Floyd Reed was in no hurry to scrap the tank cars , which he got in 1965.
Perhaps he hung onto them long enough for the tougher environmental rules to come into effect. Once the cars became hazardous waste, they may have been to expensive to scrap. Now the D&S Narrow Gauge, the C&TS Scenic, the Georgetown Loop and the Colorado Railroad Museum all have framed and frameless tank cars. Who would have thought they would still be around all these years later?
Plus the museums got together and brought several of the tanks back down from Skagway, Alaska! Amazing!
