I remember a ride on the Silverton back in '70 that I spent mostly out on the platform collecting cinders. When I washed my head at the motel in Gunnison that night, I turned the tub Black. And that was back when my Dad was still cutting my hair to 1/4 inch year 'round!
Next morning was the 1st time I ever saw #268, from the hwy 50 leaving town. Since it was just Dad & I in that car(this was the year that Dad had had it with my teenage brother, who was being a real d**k-head) we were running on his schedule and the museum wasn't open yet.
Also the ride on the Silverton that year featured a teenage boy who was reading a book and, according to Mom, never looked out the window once. "You can make me ride this stupid thing but you can't make me like it." was our best guess. What a drip.
