These are postcards from when the LK&P was a pleasant ride in pretty much open country, and we made it a point to watch and ride the railroad on several trips to Maui. I haven't looked thru my Hawaiian photo files, but these postcards give the idea.
Of course if one goes back far enough in time, one didn't have to go to Hawaii to see Hawaiian steam. Back in 1958 Oahu Railway 4-6-2 engine 85 actually gave me my first ride behind American narrow gauge steam. A really beautiful engine, then running in Griffith Park in Los Angeles.
