Actually got a chance to check out the hairpin loop at on the hill this last week on my mountain bike. The area is now a part of the "Spur Line" mountain bike trail complex, and a small portion of the trails actually utilize part of the turn for the path.
The Orange Portion of the trail is directly on the grade, which after a few hundred feet transitions to a portion near the roadbed actually crossing it twice in a short stretch (The green line).

Remanent of a cattle guard on the ROW, while not on the mountain bike path, is directly below where the path enters the roadbed on the southernmost portion of the orange line I've drawn in.
Edit: Mountain Bike Project's page on the trail system: [

In keeping with the rail theme, the southern loop is "The Switcher Loop" and the northern one is "The Rail Spikes Loop". Both trails are easy for a moderately experienced mountain bike riders... Doubly so the day after riding the Twin Buttes Trails the day before which features portions of the Boston Coal and Fuel line up the side of Perrin's Peak out of Lightner Creek.
