There are some discrepancies in the AFE book as to how much it cost to rebuilt the K-27's. concerning 455, there are separate entries for converting the boiler to superheat, and converting the running gear to piston valves/Walschaert Valve Gear. Other engines show both boiler and running gear lumped into one entry, but the end totals are very close to the same.

Boiler overhaul $ 2260.22 , minus reclaimed material of $694.89, total cost $ 1565.33.

Running gear overhaul $2000.14, minus reclaimed material of 1659.86, total cost $340.28

total price $ 1905.61

What a bargain......
