Garrie Tufford lurks around the NGDF. He called me up this morning and asked if I would share some information about the Kansas Central Brooks locomotives,
Garrie generally does not communicate via the internet; He prefers to use the phone or the USPS mail. I think he has told me he has shared his email address with very few people.
Garrie asked me to share with the group this image that he made up of a copy page he has of a Brooks locomotive list and has added some notes to. The original transcription of the Brooks list is at the Schenectady Public Library. The yellow high-lighting was done by Garrie and the information in the red overlay is also by Garrie.
Garrie explains that the order to Brooks for the narrow gauge 2-6-0s for the UP subsidiaries came from Omaha and thereafter the UP often caused the locomotives to be transferred between the subsidiaries as needed to meet equipment needs. These transfers show up in the red overlay. He tells that these came from the UP journal books now in the collection of Nebraska Historical Society.
A few of the abbreviations for subsequent owners may not be familiar to some of our readers:
MR&BT = Mississippi River & Bonne Terre Railway which was located in Missouri south of St. Louis.
SPV = San Pete Valley in Utah
SV = of course, Sumpter Valley
The other abbreviations should be familiar: UP= Union Pacific, UN = Utah Northern, DSP&P = Denver, South Park & Pacific, KC = Kansas Central.

PS Mr. Tufford reports that he has had some health issues this past year that were made worse by a misdiagnosis, But he is on the mend and doing as well as can be expected.
