I realize this is blasphemy to many on this board, but...
I hope the White Pass keeps a few of the GE shovel nose - 90 class around as a "Heritage" unit like the two steamers, 69 and 73. Perhaps even one or two of the Alco's.
When I picture the White Pass, I always picture the 90's. They were certainly have a use for smaller passenger trains such as the Carcross run or perhaps MOW trains.
Also, why did the White Pass give up on the 90s after spending all the money to rebuild them?
Last question, does anyone have a clue what the White Pass plans to do with its soon to be surplus motive power?
I realize they're dismals, but I would hate to see all of them scrapped. There can't be much of a market for scrap metal in Skagway but the cost of transporting one of these locomotives to the lower 48 might be more than the price of the locomotive.
