And you'll see that the photo of #455 was taken in Alamosa on September 1st, 1930.
Not to throw yet another green log on the fire, but I'm guessing that the arrival of the "brand new" green-jacketed K-37's from Denver earlier that year inspired the crew at Alamosa to apply the D&RGW's official standard for painting freight locomotives when #455 was in for major servicing ("green boiler jacket enamel" on not only the boiler jacket but also the cylinder jackets and the jacket over the steam side of the air pump).
