It looks like 490 got a half-hearted scrub down and beautification job before the trip. The cab and tank got washed, the jacket got a scrubbing, but not a very good one. It looks like new paint on the , cylinder jackets and fresh aluminum paint on the head covers. The smokebox did get a nice coat of new graphite and oil.
