The rebuilding of the inspection pit in stall 3 of the Como roundhouse is nearing completion;
Looking into stall 3 from the front of the roundhouse. The pit is comprised of a stone wall with timbers set on top. The new timbers are bridge timbers donated by the BNSF. The stone wall on the left side of the pit required on minor repairs, while the one on the right was in need of rebuilding in places.
Looking down stall 3 from the back of the roundhouse. The rail that will be used in stall 3 is 35 or 40Lb rail donated by Don Shank that came from the Narrow Gauge Motel in Alamosa. The rail was acquired by Bob Richardson and used to build track at the Motel. The rails are notched at the ends for the Fisher Rail Joints used by the DSP&P, indicating South Park heritage. (it is thought the Richardson acquired the rail from the Rio Grande Southern). The two rail sitting on the timbers in the photo are both dated September 1881 and were made by Vulcan Steel of St. Louis, Missouri.
