I remember that year well. I remember the car incident too. I think I was up the tracks a bit from Coxo, or I was up top below Windy on the highway. My brother shot video of them cutting up trees between Coxo and Windy Point. I think I shot it cresting Cumbers after all that work on the Windy Point drift. Thats always the mother of all drifts on the line! Usually takes about an hour or more!!
I also remember the rotary derailing near the state line below Cresco on its return trip. That fact subsequently shortened our charter trains on the weekend, which were intended to go across the whole line with multiple engines and even a surprise meet. All of which never happened. Those Rotary runs were pretty fascinating for sure. Thanks for the memories Olaf.
