Thank you, but why black from the boxcar red?
It’s my understanding that the rolling stock was painted one color largely due to expence. So this stands to reason why flats, gondolas, box and even cabeese were painted this color as were most stock cars. Then the Grande changed this practice to black on their line. What was the reason for this? Just trying to understand what the potential benefit or gain is in this color change. Just like reefers were first painted white, then yellow or orange, to help reflect light and also serve to highlight placement for serving and help in locating, as you mentioned because most were not in the direct ownership of railroads themselves (like ART, PFE and SFRD).
